Food #1

Food Blog

“I live in a lovely place. It is a small farm, just a few acres, but it is beautiful.” I love how he expresses his appreciation for nature here.

“There were no cake mixes, no canned fillings, no waiters, no corporate offices. I sold goods for cash and then walked across the street to the bank and put the money in the bank. It was real and it was good. This influenced the way I would look at my world henceforth, though this simple and satisfying arrangement couldn’t last.”

Kurt abides by a very simplistic lifestyle. He enjoys all of the things that people nowadays can so easily look past. Kurt finds enjoyment and value in possessions and experiences that are self fulfilling, raw and by his own standards. Instead of following the norm and succumbing to societies pressures and impressions on those that choose to live holistically and apart from the pack, he marvels in the natural delights the world presents him with. Wouldn’t we all just like to sit down for a second and take in what the world has to offer? Take three deep, long breaths and stare at the earth. Set aside the fast paced, technology conquered, relentless pry of the people and dedicate time to ourselves and our inner being? That is exactly the life Kurt is pursuing. He finds pleasure out of the smallest things and makes life what he wants it to be.

At first, Kurt did not set out to establish a farm. He just wanted to find a big space for a marginally low cost. In his venture to find a new place he called home, he stumbled upon a property that suited both of these needs. This place just happened to be an old farm with a chicken coup and four acres of space he could fabricate into anything his mind drew him to. “From the start I wanted the property to look good, I knew that, but I wasn’t really sure what it’s function would be.” Among his discovery of the opportunities the land presented, he quickly found that he did not have an adequate skill set required to build on the land. I wonder what obstacles he is going to run into and how he will overcome them.

  4. I have family in Portland, OR and every time I visit, I realize how lost we are in the world and how we need to realize the importance of small things, to stop and just look at nature, and I like that Kurt is doing that

  5. I think it's so interesting that Timmermeister stumbled upon farming. He claims he just committed individual actions that seemed right at the time that summed up to be a farm in the end.
